A dormant company is one that has been incorporated at Companies House but is not currently carrying on any kind of business activity or receiving any form of income. Many schools of thought consider this type of company to be dormant (inactive) for Corporation Tax purposes. There are so many reasons why a company can result into being dormant such as restructuring a previously active business or protecting a trading name to prevent it from being registered by another business.

To submit your Income tax nil return you click on your manage services and click on submission. You will then land on your submission page where you will choose and click on Income tax. It will lead you to the fill online income tax form where you will carefully choose the tax period e.g. 2020 as year20. Then choose industry code that is applicable to you e.g.  COYTRS for a Company or Trust, INCINDV for Income Tax Individual, etc. then you carefully put zeros on Turnover and Cost of sales.

On your expenses you put the expenses incurred during dormant period e.g. bank account maintenance expenses. You then go on to fill in the provisional tax which you can put zero. Then enter the Assets and shareholders funds if any. Based on the above information now put taxable income and any other applicable information remaining. Then click next to go to the attachment step where you attaché your bank statement and other financial statements and then click next. The final stet will be putting your electronic signature and designation click submit
